The Mrs. New Jersey United States
Woman of Achievement Award

The Mrs. New Jersey United States Woman of Achievement Award is a specially designed award honoring those outstanding women that call New Jersey their home.  The Organization believes that married women should be recognized for their ability to integrate confidence... intelligence... success... and beauty, all at the same time!  We recognize our contestants through our pageant, but we also feel it is important to recognize those women outside of the pageant who have made significant contributions.

We were proud to present the 2007 Woman of Achievement Award to Mrs. Melodie Homer.

Mrs. Melodie Homer
2007 Woman of Achievement Award

Melodie Homer is the president of The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation, founded in memory of her husband LeRoy Homer, co-pilot of United Airlines #93 which crashed in western Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.  The Foundation encourages young adults who wish to pursue aviation careers by awarding flight scholarships.  These scholarships provide funds for recipients to obtain private pilot certification, a first step towards a career as a professional pilot.  Since its inception in 2002, The Foundation has awarded over $90,000 in scholarships.

Melodie received her Masters of Science in Nursing in 1995, and has recently returned to the workforce as an adjunct professor at Burlington County College, in Pemberton, NJ.  Melodie has 20 years of nursing experience, primarily in pediatric oncology, and has worked with both the Starlight and Make A Wish Foundations.  She has written a book for children with cancer, and is currently writing a book to help young children understand death and dying.

Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Melodie currently lives in Marlton, NJ with her two children, Laurel and Alden, where she is active in her local church and community.     She was selected as the 2007 Woman of Achievement Award Winner for her continued devotion to higher and private education, demonstration of patriotism in the face of adversity, and commonality of background with Susan Huntley, Mrs. New Jersey United States 2006, who formerly served as a flight attendant with United Airlines, and is also committed to a similar platform of “Making Higher Education Possible.”  We congratulate Mrs. Homer on her continued achievement.
